The most in-demand metal of 2025: Graphite

The most in-demand metal of 2025: Graphite 30.12.2025
The most in-demand metal of 2025: Graphite

In 2025, the demand for graphite surged due to the development of electric vehicles, energy storage systems, and data centers.

In the current year, China accounted for about 65% of natural graphite mining and 85-90% of graphite processing.

A technological division also occurred within the graphite market. Specifically: synthetic graphite with high energy density and natural graphite, which is more environmentally friendly.  As ESG requirements became stricter, high-purity natural graphite began to gain an advantage.

This increased interest in deposits in Central Asia, Africa, and Canada.

Throughout the year, investor interest in graphite mining and processing projects rose sharply. Capital flows began to be directed, in particular, towards projects with processing chains that comply with ESG requirements.

According to IEA analysis, by 2030, the demand for graphite for batteries will increase by at least 2.5 times. The World Bank identifies graphite as one of the fastest-growing critical minerals in the next 10-15 years.
